Bookshelves are typically frame structures, mainly composed of a base, uprights, shelves, hanging panels, top panel, side panels, and bookends. They commonly come in two forms: single-sided and double-sided, with double-sided bookshelves frequently found in public places like libraries.

Based on installation method, they can be categorized as wall-mounted, built-in, and freestanding. Based on design, they can be categorized as irregular, symmetrical, or uniform designs. Common specifications for bookshelves include a frame width of 900-1000mm, a single-sided bookshelf depth of 250-350mm, a height of approximately 2000mm, and typically 4-6 shelves. Materials commonly include metal and wood, but bamboo or other materials are also used. Traditional bookshelves are often white, natural wood color, or dark brown, while modern designs incorporate bolder colors such as peach, blue, and green.
